Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is thinking he may not be back

Taj: Nick Kypreos on the Kyper & Bourne show on Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin: “Patrik Allvin, I think, has told a few people close around him that he doesn’t expect to be back.”

New Jersey Devils GM knows he’s on the hot seat

Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet: The New Jersey Devils might consider breaking up the president of hockey operations and GM positions. Tom Fitzgerald occupies both. Would they keep Fitzerald as GM? He’s preparing for the worst and knows that he’s on the hot seat.

Are the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to hire a GM first?

TSN: The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the process of hiring a search firm to start the process in GM search. MLSE CEO Keith Pelley continues to talk to people, and once the search firm is in place, he’ll hand over his list of eight to 10 names and go from there.

“What is this interview process labelled, is it for a GM? Is it for a president of hockey operations? I was told on Thursday that it is for a head of hockey operations, and from there we’ll see where it goes.

I think Keith Pelley wants to stay as flexible as possible in terms of whether it’s just a GM hire, or a GM and a president of hockey operations and whether it’s one person that handles both or not, they don’t want to get boxed in.

So they’d like to get someone hired by the end of May.”

NHL Rumors: The Toronto Maple Leafs Fallout Continues

Darren Dreger adds that it was suggested to him that they’ll likely just hire a GM for now. This seems like a bit of a miss, considering how big a job lies ahead for whoever the president of hockey operations is. Whoever they hire to lead the hockey operations needs a lot of management experience. As for the GM side of things, Dreger says:

“However, there is a strong consideration being given to copying the Carolina Hurricanes model. We all heard Keith Pelley speak glowingly of the work of Eric Tulsky, who’s general manager of the Hurricanes, and many believe that Keith Pelley – who’s a believer in evidence-based decisions – feels strongly that the next GM of the Maple Leafs has to be entrenched in that analytics world.”
