Should the Canucks replace Adam Foote with Manny Malhotra?
Sekeres and Price: Patrick Johnston, when asked if the Vancouver Canucks should promote Manny Malhotra to the head coaching position before another comes in and hires him.
Matt Sekeres: “Should the Canucks promote (Manny Malhotra) to the big bench before someone comes and poaches him?
Johnston: “Yeah. I mean, I think if you’re looking for sort of the long-term sake of the players, and given a how this year has not gone well for Adam Foote. Yeah, I think, I think the Canucks would be wise to get that moving forward.
NHL Injuries: Avs, Stars, Panthers, Predators, Devils, Lightning and More
Manny obviously showed us chops last year. This year was as trying experiences you can get as a, for a coach. And you know, we’ll have learned lots about culture and how to keep guys moving forward and all that. Yeah, I think they would be wise to just move forward here.
The Maple Leafs and Devils have permission to speak with Sunny Mehta
TSN: Pierre LeBrun said that both the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils have permission to speak with Florida Panthers Sunny Mehta.
“And, of course, Sunny Mehta, who has been a name that’s been all the rage of late here, especially in the Toronto market, fits the profile I think of both the kind of candidate that both New Jersey and Toronto are looking for on the data analytics side. He’s the head of analytics for the Florida Panthers. But certainly, Gino, to your point, he’s not the only person that’s drawn interest from the Florida Panthers’ front office.
Brett Peterson, assistant GM, who was also, by the way, last month named GM of Team USA for the IIHF Men’s World Championship. Peterson has interviewed twice now with the Nashville Predators. Well, certainly a preliminary discussion, and then an in-person interview.”
Are Changes Coming to the Vancouver Canucks Management and Coaching Staff?
LeBrun adds that some teams don’t like granting permission as they may not want to lose that person, but Panthers GM Bill Zito appreciated the opportunity that the Columbus Blue Jackets had granted him before he was hired by the Panthers. He had interviews with the Oilers, Devils, and Wild before.
