“I think one of the first things you do is, you figure out whether Isaac Howard is going to be a full-timer next year. So if he can play, that answers a question.
Two, who’s going to play with Conor McDavid? And I would expect to hear the name Jordan Kyrou, a ton this offseason is someone that can skate with Conor McDavid, and it’s not exactly a secret that Kyrou has been out there for a couple of years.
Auston Matthews Trade Outlook Remains Complex
I think that if you, first of all you try to re-sign (Connor) Murphy. That’s probably going to be three and a half (million), probably. And if that, if that doesn’t happen, and that’s where I’ll go back to our original conversation with the Buffalo Sabres. I wonder if Michael Kesselring could be someone that could, could slide in there.
The San Jose Sharks are looking for defensemen, and they have a surplus of young forwards. If you’re the Oilers, is there something there with the San Jose Sharks to take Darnell Nurse for one of their excess forwards, even if it’s someone like Collin Graf?
These are the kinds of things that, if you’re Stan Bowman, I think you’re probably looking at right now.
And the big one is (goaltending). Tristan Jarry is at best a backup, because he’s your backup netminder. You’re still looking for number one. Mentioned earlier about Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. I wonder if there could be something there if the Buffalo Sabres decide to move off of him.
Or, I do wonder about maybe even a bigger package, and you know, health always being the wild card, and you cross your fingers around someone like Jiri Kulich. But could there be like an even bigger deal with Edmonton for someone like Kulich and a Devon Levi or Ukko-Pekka Luukkanen?
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Minnesota Wild
But at the end of it, like Bowman’s got to get creative here, because as you guys both know, and no one more than you, Tyler, you follow this team every single day it’s not as if they have the luxury of a lot of room to maneuver here. But that’s what it kind of feels like you should be kind of looking at.”
