Dylan Larkin Requests a Trade
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Friedman, according to his sources, said that the Detroit Red Wings captain requested a trade. None of the parties is talking. Larkin, nor his agent Pat Brisson, nor Red Wings Executive Vice-President and General Manager Steve Yzerman.
Given the free agent market being so thin on July 1st. Adding Larkin to the mix makes the offseason even bigger for these teams. Larkin has a full no-trade clause this season, and so he has control over where he wants to go. Larkin has gotten the taste of what playoff hockey is like, playing for Team USA at the Olympics and Four Nations. His play was excellent during those events.

There will be many trade partners for his services. This had been brewing, given the discourse between Larkin and Yzerman last year. Not to mention, Larkin has not made the playoffs since his rookie year of 2016. It has been 10 years of missing the playoffs. So he wants a change of scenery.

How Bold Will the Detroit Red Wings Get in the Offseason?
Emily Kaplan of ESPN: Kaplan writes that issues between Larkin and management date back to his last contract. That didn’t get done until right before the 2023 trade deadline. Dylan Larkin currently makes $8.7 million a season, and his current deal runs through the 2030-31 season. He is a Michigan native and grew up in the US program, and wanted to play for the Red Wings after graduating from Michigan. The friction between the two parties and the lack of playoff success have gotten to this point.
Darnell Nurse and the Edmonton Oilers are Heading for a Split
Mark Spector of Sportsnet: Spectpr writes that the defenseman Darnell Nurse and the Edmonton Oilers are heading towards a split. Nurse has one more year of a no-trade clause before it kicks over to a 10-team list, where he can be dealt.
There were reports going back to last season, the Oilers were ready to move on from Nurse and his $9.25 million AAV. According to Spector, Oilers GM Stan Bowman will be speaking with Nurse in the coming days about his wishes.
The goal is to move Nurse next season, despite Nurse holding all the cards. Again this is a delicate situation given he was a player that was signed long-term to keep Connor McDavid happy. Speaking of McDavid, the Oilers need the cap space to make sure they can put a team together that can compete on the ice next season.
Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period: Pagnotta writes this is a big summer for the Edmonton Oilers give the situation surrounding Connor McDavid. Nurse’s name has been out there for a while and the Oilers looked to move him at the deadline. While he wants to stay in Edmonton, he is open to the right environment. The San Jose Sharks have been linked to him.
Jim Biringer: You have to wonder about Darnell Nurse and his contract. Could he be a cap casaulty as the Edmonton Oilers look to clear up cap space.
