Ilya Mikheyev will get some interest in free agency

Kevin Weekes: Sources are saying that pending UFA forward Ilya Mikheyev will be highly coveted as there will be teams looking for speed and penalty kill help, with a bit of offense.

Kieffer Sherwood’s deal is likely a comp – a mid-term deal around the $5 million-plus range.

John Carlson wants to head back East

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: Anaheim Ducks pending UFA defenseman John Carlson will be going to free agency. The sides did have some talks, but agent Rick Curran said that Carlson wants to go back East.

“I’ve had good discussions with Pat. I told him how much John enjoyed his time in Anaheim. But his preference is to return and play in the East, closer to family and the familiarity with it. Pat was naturally disappointed but completely understood.”

Toronto Maple Leafs Hire Jim Hiller as Next Head Coach

There’ll be four or five teams interested. The Capitals and Carlson had been discussing a two-year, $18 million deal before the Caps dealt him at the deadline. The Tampa Bay Lightning make sense if Darren Raddysh leave in free agency.

John Carlsson will prioritize winning over money. Tampa may be a fit

Marco D’Amico: Pending UFA defenseman John Carlsson will obviously be looking for a good salary, but have heard that winning will be more of a priority for him.

Mentioned a few days ago that the Tampa Bay Lightning could be a nice fit to replace Darren Raddysh if he leaves in free agency.

Do the Vegas Golden Knights and Rasmus Andersson Have an Extension in Place Already?

The Anaheim Ducks may revisit Jacob Trouba talks, but will free agency tempt the Dman?

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: Would think the Anaheim Ducks will pick up talks with pending UFA defenseman Jacob Trouba again after John Carlson let them know that he’s leaving. With free agency two weeks away, Trouba may be tempted to test the market.
