Avalanche Acquiring Mikkel Boedker

By all accounts this trade was a loss for the Avs.

First and foremost the Avalanche traded a player who, by almost every measurement, has been better than the one they received.

Over the last three years Alex Tanguay scored goals at a slightly lower rate than Boedker, but generated assists and points at a much higher rate, and was also better in possession.

Not only did Tanguay out produce Boedker (point totals were 13-12) down the stretch despite playing less minutes on a worse team, but the Avs had to part with a pair of prospects to acquire what was a less productive player.

Connor Bleackley, a former 1st round pick, is not very promising but the Coyotes aren’t expected to sign him and will receive a free 2nd round pick as compensation. Meanwhile, defenseman Kyle Wood is a pretty solid prospect and has already signed an entry-level deal.

That’s a lot to give up to acquire a very mediocre player for 18 games.
