Dylan Larkin to the Montreal Canadiens makes sense but would he go?

The Montreal Canadiens could use a second line center, and Red Wings Dylan Larkin would be a perfect fit as their second line center.

The Montreal Canadiens would be able to put a nice package together for the Detroit Red Wings, but would they be able to convince him to come play there?

Dylan Larkin to the Montreal Canadiens makes sense

NHL Network: The Montreal Canadiens should be one of the top teams after Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin, and if Larkin wants to win, he should consider the Canadiens.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Tony Luftman: “What will the Red Wings do, Johnny, about Dylan Larkin?

Johnson: “Okay, take a (inaudible). Say Montreal, I think that makes a lot of sense. I think Detroit, even with the departure of Steve Yzerman, would like to get this done sooner rather than later.

And you look at Montreal and how stacked they are for the next four or five years to be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender year after year after year. And oh yeah, they have a boatload of prospects that they could send back the other way that could help Detroit right away, including a guy who plays for University of Michigan and Michael Hage, who’s a first-rounder who maybe would be interested in being a centrepiece of that kind of deal.

If you could slot him one, two, and Nick Suzuki at that contract with all that, just like the guys are talking about, it makes a lot of sense. Now, Dylan Larkin again, he does have a say. He wants to be able to determine where he wants to play, and he gave up four teams. Montreal wasn’t one of the four teams that were rumored to be on his list.

But first of all, Montreal, I played there. I get it’s cold, but guess what? It’s cold in Detroit. Let’s not kid ourselves. And it is as the great, as great a hockey city as there is in the world, let alone a city to live in. So you can come around to playing there, and they treat you incredibly well.

And they’re going to be good if you’re about winning. They’re on the precipice of being about winning for the next half decade.

Mike Rupp: “If they would be able to land that Montreal Canadiens retroactively give Kent Hughes the GM of the year for last night. Because we sit there, we talk about the team that’s salary cap wise, talent wise, future wise. It’s the best position moving forward. It’s the Montreal Canadiens. So you’re able to add a player if you were at a player like Dylan Larkin, who would fall in that category as one of the best deals, club-friendly deals in the National Hockey League, are you kidding me?

So yeah, it certainly makes sense. But I think a lot of teams make sense just because Dylan Larkin is such a fantastic player and what he could bring to the to the mix.

Johnson: “But Montreal should be attractive to Dylan Larkin.

Rupp: “Yes.

Johnson: “Not everyone should want Larkin, but Larkin should want Montreal. It makes sense going both ways, and I wonder if somehow, like you’re having these conversations, if Montreal would be able to say to Detroit, ‘Hey, let us talk to Dylan Larkin. Let us make a presentation. Let us let him know why it’s great to play here.’ Put me on line one. I convince him it is the amazing place to play in the NHL,

Rupp: “We talk all the time about the top line there: Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caulfield, and imagine a Larkin – Demidov second line. Ooh, That’s scary stuff.

Johnson: “Forget it. And they wouldn’t have to take off their roster. They could like do it largely with futures, could Montreal, andn and then slide him right in.
