  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg took contact in battle drills during practice yesterday. He was taking light contact before, but yesterday was his first heavy contact. He’s getting close to returning.

“The good thing is that there is improvement…there hasn’t been any pain,” said Seidenberg, whose original prognosis from the back surgery was an eight week recovery period that would put him right around Thanksgiving. “It’s all about the strength in my lower leg and pushing off, and that’s where I have to judge how I feel. There’s been a good mix of . You’ve got to be smart about it, and not come back if you’re feeling . There’s a fine line.

“It’s getting close. I’m feeling better on the ice, and I’m feeling strong in the battles. Today was the first practice where I battled with the guys, and especially during the 3-on-3 at the end I felt good. I was pushing off and battling…how close? I’ll talk to and we’ll go from there.”

  • DJ Been of WEEI: Bruins prospect Alexander Khokhlachev will be out four to six weeks with a finger injury.

“He went up to Utica and fell on his hand, and he had a fracture, a small crack in his little finger, so he had surgery to put a pin in and stabilize that,” Sweeney said. “His timeframe — everybody’€™s different, but it’€™s probably four to six.”

On the Sharks …

  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Logan Couture will travel with the team on their six-game road trip, but he won’t skate at any point according to coach Pete DeBoer. Couture had surgery on Oct. 17th on his fractured right fibula and was given a four to six week timeline. It’s looking like it will be five weeks without being on skates for Couture by the time the road trip is done. He was at the arena yesterday and wasn’t wearing a walking boot.
