Injuries: Datsyuk, Stepan, Horton, Preds, Pysyk, Stars, etc.
  • Ansar Khan of MLive: Red Wings Pavel Datsyuk has a 2nd-degree separation of his right shoulder. GM Ken Holland said he’s expected to miss about four weeks.

“The good news is our home opener is (Oct. 9 vs. Boston), so the first two weeks of the healing process are while we’re in training camp and he won’t miss regular season games (in the next two weeks),” Holland said. “He’s out four weeks, give or take. It might be a little less, it might be a little more. We won’t know until we get down the road and see how the healing process is going.”

  • Larry Brooks for the NY Post: Rangers Derek Stepan fractured his left fibula during a conditioning drill yesterday. He hadn’t skated since Saturday as he was being held off the ice due to the effects from blocking a shot on his left fibula on Sept. 9th. He had x-rays on three separate occasions after blocking the initial shot and they all came back negative.

“Step had been feeling real good the last 48 hours,” Vigneault said. “He took the third X-ray, everything looked normal, he was good to go and then he stepped on the ice.”

  • Patrick Kearns: Rangers saying Stepan will need four to six weeks recovery, so may only miss a few games.
  • Nick Kypreos: Blue Jackets Nathan Horton’s back issues are not progressing. He hasn’t skated all summer. The plan continues to be rehab and not surgery.
  • Nashville Predators: Viktor Stalberg will be out two to four weeks with a lower body injury. Matt Cullen is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Brendan Leipsic is following concussion protocol.
  • Mike Morreale: Sabres defenseman Mark Pysyk could be out two weeks with an upper-body injury.
  • Roger Millions: Flames Mason Raymond was scratched with a lower-body injury that has been bothering him since the start of training camp.
  • Arash Madani: Replacing Jordan Staal will be done “by committee” according to Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters: “It’s a big blow. Not one guy can replace him”
  • Jonas Siegel: Maple Leafs Tyler Bozak is expected to play on Friday.
  • Mark Stepneski: Stars Valeri Nichushkin and Trevor Daley could play on Friday. Brett Ritchie is getting close too.
