Injuries: Malkin, Krejci, Dubinsky, Capitals, Franson and Oilers
  • Pittsburgh Penguins: Evgeni Malkin said he’s 50/50 if he’ll be in their opener on Thursday: “If I feel in good shape I’ll come back. If not maybe 2nd game.”
  • Boston Bruins: David Krejci has a ‘minor’ injury that isn’t completely healed as well as they had hoped. Will be reassessed today. Joe McDonald: Krejci was put on the IR and Marc Savard to the LTIR.
  • Aaron Portzline: Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky is out Thursday as he’ll day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Rob Mixer: Dubinsky was put on the IR.
  • Chuck Gormley: Capitals Dmitry Orlov (wrist) will be put on the IR. Tom Wilson (ankle) and Jay Beagle (upper-body) put on the IR as well. Aaron Volpatti (upper-body) was put on the LTIR. The Capitals aren’t sure on Mike Green’s availability for Thursday.
  • Bob McKenzie: Shoulder surgery could be required for Flames Sam Bennett. If he needs surgery, he’ll be out for months. Regardless, looking like he’ll be out for awhile and won’t be in the mix for Canada’s National Junior team. He injured his shoulder during the pre-season, but had shoulder issues for most of last year. John Shannon: A decision on Bennett will be made today.
  • Shawn McKenzie: Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Franson is targeting Saturday for his return.
  • Chris Kuc: The Blackhawks have put Brandon Mashinter on the IR retroactive to October 1st.
  • Jason Gregor: Oilers Benoit Pouliot has a hip flexor, but they hope he’s able to go on Thursday.
  • JoAnne Ireland: Oilers Nikita Nikitin (ankle) skated yesterday and will be assessed today.
