Injuries: Pens, Devils, Flyers, Lightning, Wild, Canucks and More

On the Penguins …

  • Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Defenseman Olli Maatta will be out three to four weeks. It was initially thought that he might have did some damage to his internal organs, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The team did not say what the injury was, but it is thought to involve soft issues and/or muscles. He was released from hospital yesterday afternoon.

On the Devils …

  • Tom Gulitti of The Record: There is still no timetable for Patrik Elias’s return. He is with the team on their road trip.

“I don’t think so. I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t think it would be smart. First of all, the guys are playing well and, second of all, it’s totally different. I haven’t skated with the team in seven months, so I’ve got to get used to that. I’ve got to get used to that movement, (players) moving around me and stuff and if I don’t feel comfortable, it’s a matter of getting hurt out there. The game is quick.”

On the Flyers …

  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: Goalie Michal Neurvirth said he’s ready to go tonight. He missed Tuesday’s game after taking a shot up high in practice. He said he’s also been dealing with nagging lower-body and head issues this season.
  • GM Ron Hextall said that Evgeny Medvedev is fine.

“He’s been practicing good,” Hextall said. “I watched him again today. He looks good, he’s healthy and he’s an option for us and has been for the last two games.”

  • Sam Carchidi: GM Ron Hextall said that R.J. Umberger is still not ready to return to the lineup.

  • Tampa Bay Lightning: Ryan Callahan is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

On the Sabres …

  • Joe Yerdon: Coach Dan Bylsma said that Zegmus Girgensons won’t go on their road trip and he wouldn’t confirm in Evander Kane will be in the lineup tonight. He is happy with his progress and skating.
  • John Vogl: Girgensons will miss at least the next two games.
