Injuries: Sharks, Leafs, Ducks, Sens, Lightning, Devils and Pens
  • Kevin Kurz: Sharks coach Todd McLellan indicates that Joe Thornton’s injury won’t keep him out long.
  • Elliotte Friedman: Maple Leafs Joffrey Lupul is on crutches. He’s heading back to Toronto for an MRI.
  • Eric Stephens: Ducks Eric Brewer is no longer using crutches, just in a walking boot.
  • Bruce Garrioch: Mark Borowiecki will wear a boot for a week, then they will decide on what to do next.
  • Rob Mixer: Blue Jackets Artem Anisimov (torn triceps) won’t travel with the team. He has resumed light skating in recent days.
  • Erik Erlendsson: Lightning’s Jason Garrison is skating but not ready to go.
  • Bruce Garrioch: Senators Marc Methot skated with the team for the first time since early-December.
  • Tom Gulitti of the Record: Devils lost Steve Bernier to a left leg injury that is “fairly serious” according to Lou Lamoriello.

“It’s not good, though, I can tell you that,” Lamoriello said. “When you see somebody go down like that and stay, especially when you know the player, he’s a player who doesn’t stay down when he gets hit. Unfortunately, I think it’s fairly serious.”

  • Jason Mackey of the Tribune-Review: Penguins defenseman Paul Martin is hoping to play either Friday or Saturday.

“I think I can (play), but I’m pretty sure I’m not playing (Wednesday),” Martin said. “I’d like to play by the weekend. Looking ahead, we don’t play until (next) Wednesday. It feels better every day. As it continues to get better and feel better on the ice, I think it’s going to be short; not too long.”
