  • Dan Rosen: Hurricanes Jordan Staal broke a bone in his right leg last night. There is no timetable for his return.
  • Shelly Anderson: Penguins Evgeni Malkin is not skating. He was walking around the dressing room with no sign of what his injury is.
  • Ansar Khan: Red Wings Pavel Datsyuk will likely have an MRI on his shoulder today. Doesn’t think that it is serious and may be out a week.
  • Joe Smith: Lightning’s Jonathan Drouin on his injury: “Just a little collision and I fell on it, it wasn’t a big hit or anything. Just lost balance and fell on my hand.” Erik Erlendsson: Drouin will be out three to four weeks with a fracture in his right thumb.
  • Paul Friesen: Jets Dustin Byfuglien missed yesterday with a lower-body injury. Head coach Paul Maurice said that Eric O’Dell is out with a more serious upper-body injury.
  • Mike Chambers: Avs coach Patrick Roy said that Jamie McGinn is weeks away from returning due to his back injury. He’s not skating and they won’t be rushing him.
  • David Pollak: Sharks coach Todd McLellan on Logan Couture“His last shift in the second, he got banged up a little bit and this time of the year we’re not going to fool around with anything like that so we kept him out. We’ll see how he is in the morning, but we don’t think it’s anything serious.”
