Injuries: Wings, Flames, Bruins, Capitals and Blues
  • Brad Galli of WXYZ: Red Wings Johan Franzen thinks that one more concussion and his playing career will be over.

“If I would get a really bad hit again and I would feel the same way again, that’s probably it,” Franzen said on a late afternoon during training camp in Traverse City, Michigan.

  • Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: Flames defenseman T.J. Brodie will be out for up to six weeks after suffering a broken bone in his right hand after being hit by a puck. He won’t require surgery.

“It’s definitely not the way to start (the season), but there’s nothing you can do about it now,” said Brodie, whose hand is in a splint that allows treatment during the healing process. “It’s just trying to stay in shape and be back as quick as possible.

“The d-corps is pretty deep this year, and I’m sure it’ll be an opportunity for someone.”

Flames Paul Byron has been cleared after offseason wrist surgery.

  • Pat Steinberg: Byron will likely get into a game this weekend. Ladislav Smid is unlikely to get into any preseason games.
  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Bruins Dennis Seidenberg will be out eight weeks as he requires a “lumbar microdiscectomy.” He’ll have the back surgery today. The projected defensive pairing for the Bruins could now look like: Chara-Trotman, Krug-McQuaid, Irwin-K. Miller, Morrow-C. Miller.
  • Isabelle Khurshudyan: Capitals coach Barry Trotz said that Michael Latta is day-to-day and that his issue is not too serious. Marcus Johansson has a “wrenched back.”
  • Jeremy Rutherford: Blues Scott Gomez didn’t practice yesterday as he had a root canal after being high sticked during Tuesday’s game.
  • Lou Korac: Blues Robert Bortuzzo and Jori Lehtera will skate with the players who will play tonight, but won’t play. They are expected to join full-time practices starting on Friday.
