Injury Notes: Flames, Bruins, Rangers, Lightning and Devils
  • Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald: Flames Ladislav Smid is able to skate and shoot, but he’s not quite ready for the start of training camp.

“I was kind of hoping I’d be ready for the beginning of camp,” he said. “But the surgeon suggested I waited a couple more weeks. Hopefully it won’t take that long.

“You’ve gotta be patient, but I’m really eager to get back. I don’t want to fall too far behind the other guys.”

  • Zack Cox of NESN: Bruins Dennis Seidenberg is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

“The only issue we have, I think, is Dennis Seidenberg will not likely skate for the next few days,” Sweeney said after the team opened training camp with a day of off-ice workouts. “He reported to our trainers on Monday with an upper body injury from training, and our doctors have chosen to take a conservative approach and re-evaluate day to day.”

  • Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs Nathan Horton failed his physical which wasn’t a surprise. He wasn’t given up the hope of playing again despite having a degenerative back injury.
  • Steve Zipay: Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said that treatment on Mats Zuccarello’s foot injury is minor and he’s confident that Zuccarello will start the season.
  • Bryan Burns: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said they are hopeful that goalie Kristers Gudlevski will be able to get back on the ice next week after suffering a minor upper-body injury.
  • Rich Chere: Devils Reid Boucher who is out with a concussion is getting better and is likely close to being able to get back on the ice.
