“I don’t know why everyone is jumping to conclusions just yet. You know, the Leafs are going to do interviews this week with candidates. You know, nothing has been decided. Nobody’s, nobody signed any contracts or got to that stage.
NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens, and the Buffalo Sabres
You know, the report that you’re referencing, or series of reports, I can’t even. I don’t even know where they started, to be honest, but that David Carle was going to become the new coach of the Leafs. That doesn’t seem to be the case, you know.
Obviously, he’s someone that the Leafs had interest in. A number of other teams have as well, and I just don’t know, at least at this time, doesn’t look like the timing is right for him to leave his post at the University of Denver. So I don’t think he’s even, you know, really factoring into the final, you know, set of interviews that the Leafs are going to go through.
So, you know, I think that they’re, it’s funny, they still seem to be considering a variety of coaches, in the sense that if we’re talking about them liking David Carle, who’s got no pro experience as a head coach. I also think that they’re looking at the experience end of the bucket, you know, being the Cassidy’s and the Laviolette’s.
You know, no clarity if Bruce Cassidy can talk to anybody at this point, I have not been told that he can. But obviously we’re at the start of the Stanley Cup Final here, and the Vegas Golden Knights have said they don’t want to entertain that discussion during the playoffs. So somewhere in the next 10 to 20 days they’ll play their last game of the season, and then maybe we’ll get some clarity on what’s going to happen next for him.
NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks, and the Toronto Maple Leafs
So the Leafs basically are working through their process, and this is a big week for teams across the league with the draft combine happening in Buffalo. Obviously, Toronto with the number one overall pick, that’s that’s a point of focus as well for the front office. So you know, I think it’s still going to be a little bit of time yet before we find out who the next coach of the team is going to be.”
