NHL Media: Elliotte Friedman, when asked about the Toronto Maple Leafs coaching search and when it could come to an end.

Kathryn Tappen: “Well, sticking with Toronto, there’s still a head coaching vacancy there as well. Any indication on, are they close to finalizing a new coach or where we’re at with this search?
NHL Rumors: Will the Buffalo Sabres and Alex Tuch Make a Deal?
Friedman: “No, I don’t believe, Kathryn, they’re close to finding a new (coach). I think it’s, someone told me on the weekend that from what they’re hearing about Toronto, they’re going to talk to a lot of people. And they, they are, they really want to talk to, they have a long list, apparently.
And I know I’ve been, I’ve been putting some names out there, Jay Woodcroft, Manny Malhotra, names like that, and I had some people say to me, it’s just, they think it’s just a much deeper search than that.
Now, one name that I think is, someone that they’re interested in is David Carle, the head coach of Denver. Enormously successful. I think there’s been some early contact there, and I think they’re going to talk again. I think they just wanted to gauge his interest. Would, would, would you be interested at all in the job? I think they are going to speak again, and we’ll see where it goes here he is. You know, he is in a position where he can call his own shot.
But I think Toronto wants to cast a wide net. I think they would like to talk to (Bruce) Cassidy, too. I don’t know if that’s a likely outcome, but I do believe that they’re in a position where they want to talk to a lot of people. And they are not in a position where they really have a desire to rush this, unless for whatever reason they absolutely have to do.
David Pagnotta: Believe that Jay Woodcroft is on the Toronto Maple Leafs radar for their vacant head coaching position. The Maple Leafs would need permission from the Anaheim Ducks to speak with him. As of Tuesday, they hadn’t reached out to the Ducks about permission.
