  • Renaud Lavoie: On waivers: Nikita Nikitin (EDM), Jason Akeson (BUF), Eric Tangradi (DET), Louis-Marc Aubry (DET), David Warsofsky and Kevin Porter (PIT), Marc-Andre Gragnani (NJ) and Corey Potter (ARI)
  • Chris Hine: Bryan Bickell cleared waivers and will start the season with the Blackhawks according to coach Joel Quenneville.
  • Chip Alexander: The Hurricanes sign Eddie Lack to a two year contract extension worth $5.5 million – $2.5 million in 2016-17 and $3 million in 2017-18.
  • Jenn Menendez: The Penguins have released Sergei Gonchar from his PTO.
  • Jason Mackey: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford on Gonchar: “If he’s not going to try and play somewhere else, we would really like to keep him in the organization.”
  • Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins assigned Bryan Rust, Jean-Sebastien Dea and Derrick Pouliot to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL). Kevin Porter and David Warsofsky were put on waivers. The Penguins now have 25 players left in training camp, including Eric Fehr and Tom Kuhnhackl.
  • Tom Gulitti: The Devils have put defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani on waivers. The Devils have 25 players still in camp. It’s still not known if Pavel Zacha will start the year with the Devils or be returned to Sarnia.
  • Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning’s Tyler Johnson left last night’s game with an undisclosed injury. Alex Killorn left in the third period with an undisclosed injury. Nikita Kucherov missed last night’s game with a lower-body injury.
  • Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun: Flames Joe Colborne fractured is right thumb.

    “It was a rough flight coming home (from Winnipeg) — that’s for sure. But you know what? If anything, it’s just going to let me rehab the (left) wrist a little longer, too,” Colborne told reporters Friday at the Saddledome. “I’m trying to find any positive I can get … Hopefully, when I come back, I’ll be able to have both wrists going and both hands.”
