Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: On the Bruins …

  • Bruins defenseman Matt Irwin cleared waivers yesterday and will report to Providence of the AHL. Irwin had a couple costly turnovers that led to goals and was a minus five through two games. The move allowed the Bruins to active Zdeno Chara from the IR.

Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: On the Penguins …

  • David Perron has been moved up to the Penguins second line with Evgeni Malkin and Patrick Hornqvist. Sergei Plotnikov was moved to the third line with Nick Bonino and Beau Bennett.

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: On the Stars …

  • Struggling winger Valeri Nichushkin was moved to the fourth line at practice yesterday.

“I’ve been trying to help him by shifting him around,” Ruff said. “He had some struggles early in camp on right wing, so I put him on left, and he doesn’t seem real comfortable at left right now. His game, everything has got to get a little bit quicker.”

Nichushkin could have minutes cut or could even be a healthy scratch according to Lindy Ruff.

Andrew Gross of The Record: On the Rangers …

  • Indications are that Dylan McIlrath could replace Dan Boyle on the blueline when the Rangers host the Jets tonight. Boyle has struggled in their first three games and it appears will be a healthy scratch.

Tom Gulitti of The Record: On the Devils …

  • Cory Schneider’s status for tonight is not known as his wife is expecting their first child. He missed yesterday’s practice.

Jeff Neiberg of the Philadelphia Daily News: On the Flyers …

  • Flyers goalie Steve Mason missed yesterday’s game with a personal family matter.

“With regards to ‘Mase,’ we just ask that you respect his privacy,” general manager Ron Hextall said afterward. “It’s a sensitive issue and I think it’s a fair request.”

Mason may miss tomorrow’s game as well.

  • Radko Gudas replaced Luke Schenn on the blueline.
