Morning Hits II: Oilers, Lightning, Sens, Flames, Leafs, Habs and Canucks
  • Bruce McCurdy of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers have put goalie Ben Scrivens on waivers. Nikita Nikitin cleared waivers. The Oilers still have 25 players in camp. Jordan Eberle will start the season on the IR. At least one more player needs to be cut or put on the IR. Both Oscar Klefbom and Matt Hendricks are currently injured.
  • Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said that Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn are only day-to-day with undisclosed injuries. They both left Saturday’s game early.
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators Clarke MacArthur was injured in the second period of their final preseason game with an undisclosed injury after colliding with teammate Mark Fraser and Canadiens Alex Galchenyuk. Shane Prince and Matt Puempel were battling for the 13th forward, may now both get an extended look.
  • Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun: The Flames released defenseman Ryan Wilson from his PTO, meaning rookie Brett Kulak earned a roster spot. T.J. Brodie (broken hand), Ladislav Smid (neck) and Joe Colborne (thumb) will be put on the IR.
  • Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs put T.J. Brennan, Andrew Campbell, Sam Carrick, Matt Frattin and Byron Froese on waivers with the purpose of assigning them to the AHL. Assigned to the AHL were Antoine Bibeau, Connor Brown, Rich Clune, Zach Hyman, Kasperi Kapanen, Viktor Loov, William Nylander, Stuart Percy, Nikita Soshnikov, Garret Sparks and Rinat Valiev. Petter Granberg is injured.
  • Jonas Siegel: The Maple Leafs final spot appears to be down to Stephane Robidas, Scott Harrington, Richard Panik and Marc Arcobello. (clarifying – Leafs need to make one more cut, so likely one of those four)
  • Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post: Capitals Jay Beagle missed part of the third period last night with a “slight” lower-body injury.

“He was going to play, and the trainer gave him the okay to play,” Trotz said. “I gave him a golden handshake to go to the dressing room.”

  • Ottawa Sun: Canadiens forward Zack Kassian suffered minor injuries in a car accident. Kassian was a passenger in the vehicle.
  • John Shannon: The Canucks haven’t finalized their roster, but there is a good chance that Jake Virtanen, Jared McCann and Ben Hutton could make their opening night roster.
