- Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune Reivew: Pascal Dupuis has been skating with teammates for a couple days.
“With teammates, being on the ice, being allowed more than myself and the trainer here in Pittsburgh … it’s the first time in basically 10 months,” Dupuis said. “Felt great to be out there. Obviously still have to find some stuff with my game. It’s August, but there’s plenty of time here. Feels good to be out there.”
Dupuis will be going on and off blood thinners to continue playing, which isn’t ideal.
“This is clearly a compromise between the risk of bleeding and the risk of having a recurrent blood clot,” Ansell said. “It may be one that’s necessary for one’s livelihood and career.
“This is not something individuals should do on a routine basis. It is absolutely not recommended. But again, for somebody in professional sports and other activities, one can understand why it’s done.”
- Rich Chere of NJ.com: Jacques Lemaire left the Devils for the Maple Leafs for the familiarity with GM Lou Lamoriello and Mike Babcock.
“Lou is a big part of it. And Babcock is the other part. I don’t know Shero and the coach that much,” Lemaire told NJ Advance Media. “I know them, but not as close friends, like I know (Lamoriello and Babcock).
“In the type of job I’m doing, it’s good that the coach is ready to work with you and the manager knows what you’re bringing. I would have had to discuss a lot with (Shero and his coaching staff) and make them believe that what I would be doing would be good for them. It was a lot easier this way. I don’t have to convince anyone. Lou knows what I’m doing and what I bring.”
Babcock had reached out to Lemaire before Lamoriello did.
