Morning Hits: Waivers, Declining the White House and Injuries
  • Pierre LeBrun: The Lightning put goaltender Evgeni Nabokov on waivers.
  • Matt Baker: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman:  “We didn’t feel it was right for Evgeni or the team to kind of keep him here if he’s not going to play.” Yzerman added with their hectic schedule coming up, there will be more opportunity for backup goalie starts and Vasilevskiy has earned more games.
  • Byran Burns: Yzerman added that Andrei Vasilevskiy getting recalled will give Kristers Gudlevskis more starting time with Syracuse.
  • Dallas Stars: The Stars reassign Jamie Oleksiak and Brett Ritchie to the AHL.
  • Mike Vogl: Blues Kevin Shattenkirk left yesterday’s game with a lower-body injury. Lou Korac: No injury updates yesterday, with coach Ken Hitchcock saying all of their injured players will be evaluated later today. Shattenkirk was walking around after the game, but with a bit of a limp.
  • Tim Panaccio: Flyers Scott Laughton passed his concussion testing yesterday.
  • Patrick Williams: Jets Matt Halischuk is week-to-week with a lower-body injury according to coach Paul Maurice.
  • Lance Hornby: Maple Leafs Dion Phaneuf is with the team and skating, but won’t play until next weekend.
  • Bruce Garrioch: The Senators put Craig Anderson on the IR retroactive to the game against the Leafs before the All-Star break. He is eligible to return on Tuesday.
