Corey Crawford close to returning and Rick Nash injures his groin
On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Chris Hine of the Chicago Tribune: Corey Crawford had an appendectomy on December 3rd and he could return on Friday against the Avalanche according to coach Joel Quenneville. Crawford has been skating during their road-trip and again yesterday, which the team had off. Quenneville wants to see Crawford at practice before naming him the starter for Friday.

On the Nashville Predators …

Adam Vingan of the Tennessean: Defenseman P.K. Subban missed Saturday’s game, and he didn’t travel with the team on their two-game road trip. Game one was last night, with game two tonight. He has an upper-body injury and is listed as day-to-day.

On the New York Rangers …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Forward Rick Nash pulled his groin in his first shift of OT on Sunday. He just returned – three games – from missing four games with a pull to his other groin. He will miss tonight’s game and will be out indefinitely.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: The Senators didn’t practice yesterday, so Andrew Hammond wasn’t able to test out the ankle he injured on Sunday. If Hammond can’t go tonight, they could recall Matt O’Connor to backup Mike Condon. Craig Anderson remains with his wife and there is no timetable for his return.

Bruce Garrioch: Fredrik Claesson is ready to return and they’ve sent Casey Bailey and Ben Harpur back to the AHL.

Helene St. James: Tomas Jurco missed last night’s game with the flu.

Ansar Khan: The Red Wings put defenseman Alexey Marchenko on the IR with a shoulder injury and recalled Nick Jensen.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Colorado Avalanche: Semyon Varlamov to return to the Avs lineup after missing three games with a minor groin injury.

Mark Stepneski: Forward Patrick Sharp practiced yesterday and Lindy Ruff said he’s getting closer.

Mike Heika: Coach Lindy Ruff said that defenseman Johnny Oduya is unlikely for today.

Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Defenseman Carl Gunnarsson was in the lineup last night. Ken Hitchcock said he would likely play only one of their games on Monday and Tuesday. Brad Hunt could draw in tonight.
