Five players who could use a change of scenery
Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff: A look at the top five players who could use a change of scenery for next season.
Kent Johnson – Columbus Blue Jackets – The 23-year-old left-winger and former first-round pick found himself as a healthy scratch at times down the stretch. Buying low.
Jordan Kyrou – St. Louis Blues – 28-year-old has an $8.125 million cap hit, and only put up 18 goals last season. Had four years before that, with between 27 and 37 goals.
Mason McTavish – Anaheim Ducks – Six more years at $7 million, and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs a couple of times. Still only 23-years-old.
NHL Rumors: Islanders, Senators, and the Penguins
Simon Nemec – New Jersey Devils – How will new GM Sunny Mehta view the pending RFA.
Shane Wright – Seattle Kraken – Has one-year left on his entry-level deal and the Kraken are looking for a top-six forward. Averaged 17 goals per 82 games in his first two seasons on just 13:40 of TOI.
The Dylan Larkin trade request and musings of who could be interested
Vince Z. Mercogliano: From the New York Rangers perspective on Dylan Larkin’s trade request.
It would be a real surprise if the Rangers didn’t call the Red Wings about Larkin. Believe the Rangers have inquired before, and it would be a big swing they might look at for their retool.
The Rangers were last in the Eastern Conference, so would he waive his no-movement clause for them.
Would Vincent Trocheck and a first-round pick (No. 26) get Yzerman’s attention? The No. 5 pick seems a bit much.
Larkin’s trade request impacts any Trocheck talks as Larkin is three years younger and is better offensively.
Who Could be in on Detroit Red Wings Dylan Larkin? Who Makes Sense?
Jason Gregor: “Dylan Larkin for Mat Barzal as main pieces in a trade? Larkin for MacTavish and more?
Lots of teams will have interest in Larkin. He has five years remaining at $8.7m. He has scored 30-34 goals each of the past five seasons. Fascinating name suddenly on the market.”
Irfaan Gaffar: “A lot of talk about the Wild and Canadiens make sense for Larkin. LA needs a centre, and the two people running both teams have a very good relationship. Now, where does Larkin want to go remains the biggest question. Full NTC.”
David Pagnotta: “With all the speculation over Dylan Larkin’s potential landing spot, you have to wonder about the Vegas Golden Knights being a destination he’d want to go. Larkin is good friends with Jack Eichel. Can VGK pull this off after the Cup Final?”
