On the Anaheim Ducks …
Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Hampus Lindholm and Rickard Rakell remain back in Sweden as the Ducks continue their training camp. They won’t be in camp until they have a new deal.
Long-term contract appear to be desired by all sides. The Ducks have discussed up to eight years deals with Lindholm and six years with Rakell.
Peter Wallen, Rakell’s agent said that there has been no progress made this week.
The Ducks have about $7.5 million in salary cap space, which won’t be enough to get both players signed. The Ducks will need to move out some salary. The $7.5 million doesn’t include the two forwards they’ll need to fill out their roster.
They will get some cap relief when they put Nate Thompson on the LTIR. They will get about $1.6 million in cap relief. Thompson is expected to be out until March.
On the Winnipeg Jets …
Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun: The Winnipeg Jets could decide to keep three goalies to start the season – Ondrej Pavelec, Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson. Head coach Paul Maurice didn’t rule it out yesterday. On who could be their starter.
“I’ll probably claim that I know five minutes before we announce it,” Maurice said. “Pre-season games are important, there’s no doubt about that. But… you can’t make a decision and give a guy a job based on two or three good weeks. Especially in goalies, the body of the work will have a bigger impact on your overall view.”
Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun: Ondrej Pavelec is entering the final year of his five-year deal with the Jets.
“I’ve been through a lot in Winnipeg here,” Pavelec said. “So I don’t think anything can surprise me, to be honest. I went through the bad situations and I went through the really good situation that I really enjoyed.
“I’m not going to stress myself right now because I don’t have a contract for next year. I have a contract for this year. So I want to enjoy it. I want to play well and do whatever it takes to win.”
