NHL Rumors: Are Rasmus Andersson’s Days With the Calgary Flames Numbered?

Will the losing finally get to Rasmus Andersson? Given his age and contract ask, is there even a fit for him with the Calgary Flames?

Are Rasmus Andersson’s days in Calgary numbered?

Sportsnet: Eric Francis, when asked about Rasmus Andersson, and what his future may hold with the Calgary Flames. Will the losing finally get Andersson? What type of contract could he be looking for? Is there even a future fit with the Flames?

Matt Marchese: “But when it comes to the future of Rasmus Andersson, like, how, how open do you think he is to staying? Like, and how much of it is the comfortability of being in Calgary and he’s been there his whole career, and how much of it is needing to see what this looks like after, you know, whether it be this year or beyond this year, like, how much of that is part of this conversation, or is that the biggest part?”

Francis: “You know, I, I will answer that by saying, look, he, he loves it in Calgary. 10 years he’s been there. He’s drafted there a couple of years before that, so it’s all he knows.

NHL Injuries: Oilers, Wild, Predators, Islanders, Rangers, Kraken, Leafs, and Canucks

But I think that the losing is wearing on him. He wears it more than almost anybody else. And our post-game scrums after a loss, they almost always send out Rasmus Anderson, and it’s like he lost his dog that day. You know, it’s all, he always takes every loss so hard. And I think, you know, cumulatively, over his whole stay in Calgary, it’s, you know, it’s been much more losing than winning. And I personally think that he’s probably had enough of that and wants to go try something different.

Then there’s the second part. But again, he loves Calgary, loves his teammates. And he was speaking a lot about that yesterday. Like he, he’s, he’s beloved in that room. He’s a leader.

The other thing is, of course, the money. You know, I do understand. It’s my understanding that he was looking at somewhere around $9 million a year last summer when they asked him what he was looking for. I do believe the Calgary Flames were interested in things somewhere in the neighborhood of $7 million a year. That’s quite a chasm between the two.

And then on top of that, don’t forget, Rasmus Anderson is 29 years of age. These are kind of two ships passing in the night, if you ask me. Like the organization’s trying to get younger, not older. And, you know, signing him to a seven-year deal, which is another thing he’ll be looking for.

NHL Rumors: Devils, Canucks, and the Canadiens

I’m not sure the organization should be looking at something like that, especially when it’s a big-ticket item like Rasmus Anderson. So heart and soul guy, they love him. I just don’t think it’s a fit moving forward much longer.
