On the Arizona Coyotes, Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan …

TSN: Darren Dreger on TSN 690 said that the Arizona Coyotes asked the Montreal Canadiens for Michael McCarron and a draft pick for Martin Hanzal. GM John Chayka is basically asking for the moon for Hanzal.

“That’s exactly what John Chayka is doing. And I presume Joe Sakic and the Colorado Avalanche has a similar lofty asking price any time Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog is mentioned in trade dialog,” Dreger said, before adding the trade market will open up the closer we get to March.

“The price is going to come down. The Arizona Coyotes aren’t a strong enough organization where they can afford to allow good players to just walk out for nothing.”

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on the NHL Network.

“I think Arizona, obviously, is a team that is willing to move pieces,” said Friedman. “I’m not sure about Doan, if that’s going to go, but I do think that Marty Hanzal is a guy there. I’d heard that Montreal had gone to them about Hanzal awhile ago. I heard that Arizona was looking for a package that included Michael McCarron – one of their top center prospects, and that is the kind of player Arizona is looking for – a first-rounder, and a conditional pick.

“To me, that was just your first offer… don’t undervalue yourself with your first offer. Montreal said no to that. I’m sure they’re going to double back at some other point, and they’re going to talk again. So I think Hanzal is very high on my list.”

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka was on Arizona Radio Wednesday on Shane Doan and if teams have called on him.

“You know what, I’ve had some discussions,” admitted Coyotes general manager John Chayka during a Wednesday morning radio appearance on Arizona Sports 98.7. “But at the same time, talking to Shane I don’t get the sense that this is the time to have that type of discussion.

“Again, I think I’ve said on this show too, with me it’s been a bit overblown. Not in the sense a player who is maybe in the last year of his career would have thoughts that if a team is not trending toward the playoffs, which we don’t appear to be, that maybe there’s another opportunity out there for him. So that part’s not overblown. I think Shane has had some thoughts, and that’s natural and organic for his situation.”
