Teams are interested in Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram
Darren Dreger: There are multiple teams talking to the Buffalo Sabres about defenseman Bowen Byram. He one year left on his contract and will be a pending UFA after next season. With agent Darren Ferris’ history of taking his clients to free agency, there is some motivation for the Sabres to move him.
- Marco D’Amico: “This either ends in a massive payday for Bowen Byram on July 1st, or a trade to a destination of choice where he would likely extend long-term and be a top-pair D. Would be surprising to see a club pay a massive trade haul for only one guaranteed year.”

What the Toronto Maple Leafs Would Want in Return for Matthew Knies Is …
Seravalli: “This has nothing to do with money.”
Buccigross: “Okay.”
Seravalli: “Has nothing to do with place. Bowen Byram likes Buffalo. He likes his teammates. He likes the trajectory of the Sabres. This has everything to do with opportunity and a continual challenge, as I understand it, that exists within Bowen Byron.
He sees himself as a number one defenseman in the NHL. And watching him in these playoffs, it’s hard to argue that that’s not the case. So, if you consider where he’s been in his career, an early Stanley Cup winner, he, no matter what, he was always going to be behind Cale Makar in Colorado.
It’s that Bowen Byram is a believer in himself, and he’s got this drumbeat that says, ‘I can be that guy.’ And I think he can. Other teams think he can. Now it’s about getting to a place where he can actually get the opportunity to prove it, and there’s lots of teams that would like to find out if a 21, 25 year old who can play on either side of the blue line can do that for their team and be their number one.”
Buccigross: “Absolutely, the list is so long. Again, a dynamic player, a great age to get the max starting next year, which would be seven years for him if he stays with that team that he’s on, and I’m sure they’ll finagle it, so it’s a seven-year deal. Like I said, around 10, I think that’s the starting point for him. We’ll see what he does this year.
NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, and the St. Louis Blues
But yeah, I mean, whether it’s, you know, Kyle Dubas in Pittsburgh. Or whether it’s, you know, the New York Rangers. Whether it’s, like it’s there’s all kinds of these, and again, you don’t know where he, does he want to play out west? That it could be somewhere out there as well. Does he want to play in Canada? Like, There’s certainly, it’s the Toronto Maple Leafs could be, like wherever it is, like he, he’s going to be very popular, very popular.”
