Bowen Byram could sign an extension this offseason, but his agent has a history of going to free agency
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram is extension eligible after July 1st, and is scheduled to be a UFA after next season. He really likes playing in Buffalo and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he signs an extension this offseason. But need to keep in mind that his agent is Darren Ferris, whose clients have a history of going to free agency.
The Devils handled Simon Nemec differently than Luke Hughes, and Nemec fits the Canucks timeline
Sekeres and Price: Jeff Marek, on the Sekeres and Price Show, was asked if the Vancouver Canucks should be interested in New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec, if he’s made available. The Devils may not have handled his development the same as they did for Luke Hughes.

Sekeres: “Simon Nemec has asked for a trade out of New Jersey. It’s funny because you will find some really big Simon Nemec believers, and you will find some people who don’t believe he’s going to live up to his lofty number two overall status. Where do you land? Should the Canucks be interested in the 22, right-shot defenseman.”
Marek: “I love him. I love him, and yeah, I love him, and yes, absolutely.
And as, as uncomfortable as it was for Simon Nemec, and how he’s been handled by the New Jersey Devils. And again, like, and don’t think that players didn’t notice this too, but it, the Devils were always pretty quick to send Simon Nemec down to the minors for transgressions that they looked the other way on with Luke Hughes. That was not lost on fans, observers, and players, at the same time.
But that has, I think, stiffened his spine. Did he always deserve it? Maybe, maybe not, but I don’t think that it’s ever a bad thing for a player to have adversity early in his career. I think it generally always pays off in the long run. Earned not given.
