Ottawa Senators Not Done Tweaking Roster
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Garrioch writes that Senators GM Steve Staios isn’t done fine-tuning the roster. After moving out Brady Tkachuk, the Senators brought in William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks and Andre Burakovsky from the Chicago Blackhawks. He also signed Jordan Spence to a four-year, $20 million deal, with an AAV of $5 million. But the work is far from over.
The goal for Staios is to continue adding depth to the team, whether that is through free agency or another trade or trades remains to be seen. But he wants to improve the roster. However, he isn’t just going to bring a player via free agency just to say he did something.
Meanwhile, communication remains open between Claude Giroux and Nick Cousins. While Giroux will see what is out on the open market, he would prefer to stay in Ottawa. Same for Cousins. It is unclear, as Garrioch writes, if either is open to taking a hometown discount.

Steve Yzerman Confirms Trade Request As He Will Wait For His Price
Max Bultman of The Athletic: “Yzerman now confirms Larkin’s trade request, with short list of teams. But adds Larkin had 5 years remaining on his contract, says his job is to do what’s in the best interest of the Red Wings and he will act accordingly. Said he didn’t make any guarantees RE: meeting the request”
Pierre LeBrun: Larkin‘s agent, Pat Brisson. “The process is that we’ve had discussions for the last month or so. And we’ve agreed that we’ll be working together on this. I do understand that Steve and the organization have to do what’s best for the Red Wings. We’re trying to work as a `team’ together on this to reach each of our goals so to speak.”
Quick Note: The two parties are working daily to facilitate a trade. However, the belief and the theory are that a third team will need to be involved, as the Red Wings GM doesn’t want just futures. He wants roster players to keep Detroit competitive.
