NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the New York Rangers
Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes are two players the New York Rangers could considering trading before the deadline.
Stars still have time to make a big move

Mike Heika: (asked about the lack of moves from the Dallas Stars this past offseason) The Stars committed a lot of salary cap space last season with the additions of Alexander Radulov, Ben Bishop, Martin Hanzal, and Tyler Pitlick. This season they want to give ice-time to Valeri Nichushkin, Miro Heiskanen and Julius Honka.

Believe that they would be open to making a big trade now or at the deadline, but they are also confident in the group they currently have. The time for the Stars is now, so management will make moves accordingly.

Maple Leafs offering up a couple players in trade

James Mirtle of The Athletic: The Toronto Maple Leafs kicked tires on some free agent defensemen, as well as some trade options to improve their blue line. They may end up just going with their internal depth.

The Leafs could look to add another depth centerman on a PTO or a cheap contract to battle Par Lindholm for the No. 4 slot.

Winger Josh Leivo is available for trade.

GM Kyle Dubas will likely have to acquire a right-handed defenseman at some point.

The Leafs have made goaltender Calvin Pickard available for trade.

Looking at some trade options for the Rangers

Adam Gretz of NBC Sports: Looking at some players the New York Rangers could look at moving this season.

Mats Zuccarello – Subject of trade rumors last season as well. The 31-year old is entering the final year of his contract and likely back on the trade block.

Kevin Hayes – Will be an unrestricted free agent after the season after signing a one-year deal. If the Rangers were thinking Hayes was in their long-term plans, he would have signed him to a deal already.

Ryan Spooner and Vladislav Namestnikov – Have two years left on their contracts but could be used in a trade. Spooner and Namestnikov were acquired at the trade deadline last year. They could be short-term gap players for the Rangers or trade chips at the deadline. Both players carry a $4 million salary cap hit.
