NHL Rumors: Perron, Vesey, Elias, Nyquist and Thornton
Patrik Elias
On David Perron …

Matt Drake of Habs Eye On The Prize: David Perron said that his first choice was to re-sign with the Anaheim Ducks according to his interview with the RDS. It was down to the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues, but in the end money won.

“My heart was talking a lot, and it came close. There would have been a lot of money left on the table, and I couldn’t really take that chance, so it was for that I chose St. Louis.”

On Jimmy Vesey, Patrik Elias and the Rangers …

Andrew Gross of North Jersey: The NY Rangers and NJ Devils are two of the teams that could sign free agent winger Jimmy Vesey. The Sabres, Maple Leafs and Bruins are also among the teams that are interested in signing Vesey.

It’s not known yet if Patrik Elias will return to the Devils next season. Devils GM Ray Shero has said a decision may not be made until September. Factors include if they have a roster spot for him, his health and his desire to return.

It’s likely the Rangers roster will remain the same heading into the preseason. GM Jeff Gorton will still be looking to improve his team though.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Ansar Khan of MLive: Winger Gustav Nyquist has three years left on his deal with a $4.75 million salary cap hit. Nyquist struggled from December to the end of the season last year. He could find himself as a trade chip for the Red Wings as they search for a top-three defenseman.

On the Florida Panthers …

Matt Kalman of CBS Boston: The 39-year old Shawn Thornton thought his career would be over after last season with the Panthers. Thornton was planning on retiring, then the Panthers made a contract offer.

“When they offered another year I sprained my finger signing the thing before they changed their minds,” Thornton said.
