NHL Rumors: Dubas And Nylander Didn’t Exchange Numbers During Meeting … NHL Executives On Nylander
Toronto Maple Leafs GM Dubas and William Nylander's camp didn't exchange contract numbers during meeting.
Critical seven to 10 days for Maple Leafs and Nylander

TSN: Pierre LeBrun said on Insider Trading that despite Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas flying to Switzerland to meet with William Nylander, no numbers were exchanged between the sides. The meeting was a positive and was needed.

“I think there is a lot of work still to be done in this negotiation to salvage this thing. Certainly the next week to 10 days are a critical juncture for this either way, but still a lot of work to be done.”

On the Dubas-Nylander meeting

Kristen Shilton: Darren Dreger on TSN 1050 on the Dubas-Nylander meeting:  “My belief is offered an assurance, that the plan is not to come to terms on a contract to extend William Nylander, bring him back to North America, and then trade him.”

Nylander doesn’t appear to be budging on his asking price. A two or three year may be their best chance to get a deal done.

Sportsnet 590: Jeff Marek on the Dubas-Nylander meeting: “I think this is Dubas sort of (offering) the olive branch and reaching out…(and seeing) if (they) can…come to some type of agreement.”

Executives talk Nylander

Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: William Nylander has started skating with Dornbirner EC in Austria.

Two NHL executives don’t think Nylander is worth what he’s asking the Maple Leafs for.

“William Nylander is not worth what William Nylander thinks he’s worth,” said an executive from the Western Conference.

“The Leafs are right,” said an Eastern Conference executive. “There is no way any team in the NHL is going to pay Nylander $8 million.”

Another Western Conference executive said that money for an offer sheet just doesn’t work for any team.

Another Eastern Conference executive said that Nylander wouldn’t be underpaid if he were to get $6.5 million.

Nylanders camp is worried that he could be the first to be traded if/when the Leafs are in a salary cap crunch.
