Trade deadline buyers and sellers for the Eastern Conference
Scott Burnside of ESPN: Looking at who could be buyers and sellers in the Eastern Conference at the All-Star break, and who could be good fits for them for those teams.
Boston Bruins – Will the Bruins end up firing coach Claude Julien? Kevin Shattenkirk and Matt Duchene would be good fits.
Buffalo Sabres – Will look to acquire more assets. Teams could call on Brian Gionta and Matt Moulson (if the Sabres retain salary).
Carolina Hurricanes – Falling out of contention and must resist trading one of their young defenseman for offensive help. Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog could be good fits.
Columbus Blue Jackets – Could use some center depth if it’s not a rental, as well as a backup goaltender. Good fits would be Jaroslav Halak if the Isles retain money, or Ondrej Pavelec.
Detroit Red Wings – Time to start moving out some players. Possibilities include Thomas Vanek, Mike Green (if retain salary) and Tomas Tatar.
Florida Panthers – Don’t look like a playoff team, so could be sellers. Moving Jaromir Jagr could be an option.
Pittsburgh Penguins – Not a lot of salary cap room. Could get calls on Marc-Andre Fleury.
Philadelphia Flyers – Don’t expect them to add a rental. Teams could call on Mark Streit.
Montreal Canadiens – Could use a puck-moving defenseman and some size down the middle. Kevin Shattenkirk and Mark Streit could be good fits.
New Jersey Devils – Could use a defensman with term. Tyson Barrie and Jacob Trouba would good fits.
New York Islanders – Not likely a playoff contender and could look to sell Ryan Strome and Josh Bailey.
New York Rangers – Could use a veteran forward with jam. Jarome Iginla, Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan could be options.
Ottawa Senators – Could use help up front like Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog. Would cost them a defenseman or two.
Tampa Bay Lightning – Could look to move pending free agent Ben Bishop. Mark Stone would be a good fit.
Toronto Maple Leafs – Adding some veteran help, especially on defense would help, but they will likely resist adding. Kevin Shattenkirk would be a good fit.
Washington Capitals – Buyers, with Kevin Shattenkirk as a good fit.
