NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, and the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Edmonton Oilers could come calling on the Boston Bruins on defenseman Torey Krug.
Could the Oilers call on Krug?

Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports: The Boston Bruins have eight NHL defensemen under contract for next season, with the signing of John Moore to a long-term deal increased the trade speculation that someone could be moved with Torey Krug the most likely candidate.

The trade market for Krug would be strong and they could get a good return for him.

The Edmonton Oilers have lost left-handed defenseman Andrej Sekera to long-term injury, and could now come calling as they could use an offensive, top-four left-handed defenseman.

The Oilers have shown interest in Krug before.

The Bruins don’t want/have to trade Krug, but they need a top-six scoring winger.

Could the Bruins get Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who played well on the wing last season?

Trade rumors involving the Oilers and Krug are likely to continue.

Maple Leafs have backup decisions and options

TSN 1050: James Mirtle was on TSN 1050 talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs backup goaltender situation.

Mirtle notes that the GM Kyle Dubas is a believer in Garret Sparks and that they should give him the opportunity to be the backup over giving 35-year old Curtis McElhinney 16 starts. This could give Frederik Andersen a little more rest.

McElhinny, Sparks and Calvin Pickard would all require to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL.

“Calvin Pickard has been offered around the league in trade talks, other teams have been saying that. So, you know they are looking to ease that logjam a little bit.

But, I fully expect that the Leafs are going be putting one of those relatively goo options for backup on waivers, and I don’t think it makes any sense to put the AHL goalie of the year on waivers in the fall.

So, you either have to either make Garret Sparks your backup or you trade gotta him. I suspect he will be your backup.”
