Could Sutter be on the Oilers radar?
Darren Dreger: Not sure if Darryl Sutter would be interested in returning to the NHL, but would have to expect the Edmonton Oilers would have him on their list of people they may want to talk to.
Daniel Nugent-Bowman: For what it’s worth, had been told that after the Oilers had fired head coach Todd McLellan, the Oilers didn’t approach Sutter. There has obviously been a lot of change since then though.
Flames GM Treliving on the trade deadline
Kristen Anderson of the Calgary Sun: Do the Calgary Flames decide to go the in-house route or do they look at the trade market for a depth forward, veteran defenseman or backup goaltender?

“Probably, for the most part, if teams haven’t had their (scouting) meetings, they’re having them right now,” Treliving said. “You try to do that five or six weeks before the deadline to get a sense of what your people see. And you start the dialogue with teams. I don’t necessarily think this year is any different from year’s past. What changes is where your position is, right? What you may be doing or not be doing … I say it all the time, and it sounds boring, but we continue to watch our team and continue to see if there are ways out there to help you.”
Karlsson and Sharks to meet soon
Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News: The San Jose Sharks were in Florida, GM Doug Wilson met with Erik Karlsson’s agent Don Meehan. Chris Johnston reported that the sides will meet again around the All-Star break
“We have no timetable on anything. Whatever goes on is going to be handled privately,” Karlsson said. “Doug Wilson has been great with us ever since we got here. He’s been very respectful. I appreciate that a lot, both me and my wife do. When the time comes for a decision to be made, whenever that is, I think they’ve done everything they possibly can to give us the most information we need to make the right decision.”
