Oilers offered up Talbot to an Eastern Conference team

David Pagnotta: Have been told that the Oilers had recently offer goaltender Cam Talbot to an Eastern Conference non-playoff team. They had previously spoken with that team about a larger deal that had involved Talbot. He has a 10-team no trade list and it appears that this team may be on his list.

Group decision on Koskinen

Daniel Nugent-Bowman: Oilers CEO Bob Nicholson said that the re-signing of goaltender Mikko Koskinen was a collaborative effort and decisions and not just done by former GM Peter Chiarelli. They looked at the future goalie market and decided this was their best route.

The Oilers think they can make the playoffs, but won’t mortgage their future

TSN: Edmonton Oilers CEO Bob Nicholson during yesterday’s press conference.

“We will look to try to bolster the offence and the defence, but again we’re not trading away our first-round pick. When you look at some of our other top prospects, we’re not giving them away unless we get some real good pieces back.”

Nicholson still thinks that the Oilers could make the players and hasn’t ruled them out of making trades, but they won’t mortgage their future.

“We’re not going to trade any of our assets away for a quick fix. We’ll make some trades at the deadline if they are the right trades to get us in the playoffs but not giving away the future…I emphasize again, we’re not going to give away the future.”
