NHL Rumors: Erik Karlsson, Tyler Seguin, and the Columbus Blue Jackets

Karlsson says he’s okay with playing in Canada

Elliotte Friedman: Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson reached out to say that it’s not accurate that he isn’t willing to sign a long-term deal with a Canadian team.

Elliotte Friedman: He wouldn’t comment on anything else when asked.

Looking like Seguin won’t have a new deal before the start of the season

Sean Shapiro of The Athletic: (mailbag) Even though the Dallas Stars and Tyler Seguin‘s camp have been talking about a contract extension, it’s not looking like it will get done before the start of the season.

Seguin will likely be looking for John Tavares type money, and the Stars should expect that’s what it will take to get him locked up long-term.

Assuming no deal is signed, trading Seguin at any point would mean that things have gone terribly wrong.

One of the Stars top items on their to-do list may be to add another legit top-six forward.

Believe that Mark Stone would be an ideal fit in the Stars top-six. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent after this season. There could be a bidding war for his services at the trade deadline.

Blue Jackets would be interested in Nash … Tortorella talks continue

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: The 34-year old Rick Nash still hasn’t decided whether he’ll play next season or not due to injuries. If he decides to play, can expect the Columbus Blue Jackets or other Stanley Cup contenders to be interested.

The Blue Jackets and head coach John Tortorella continue their contract talks. He’ll make $2 million in the last year of his deal. The sides hope to get a deal done before the start of the season but there is no guarantee that it will get done.
