NHL Rumors: Flyers, Sens, Bruins, Stars, Devils and Sabres
  • Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News: Flyers Vinny Lecavalier denies Darren Dreger’s report that he wants to retire after next season. The Flyers would like to trade him and could retain up to $2.25 million of his salary and cap hit. He has a full no-movement clause. He could entice a playoff team or two. His salary is $4.5 million next season, then drops to $3 million for the remaining two years.
  • Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators haven’t re-started contract talks with defenseman Marc Methot.

“We haven’t been talking,” said Methot. “I’ve been out for awhile, so we haven’t received anything. I’m sure we’ll get that going that going at some point.

“But right now our focus obviously is just on playing the games here. I’m going to let my agent take care of all that other stuff.”

  • Jimmy Murphy: Keep hearing Chris Stewart to the Bruins rumors. He has underachieved, but there are many teams who want him.
  • Jimmy Murphy: The Stars should see what it would cost to add Marc Methot and Craig Anderson. Improving their defense and goaltending to that offense, and the sky is the limit.
  • Tom Gulitti: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello on Damien Brunner: “If we can work something out for him, we will. There are several potential situations.”
  • Chad DeDominicis of the Fourth Period: Looks at some Sabres who could be in the trade block and what their return could be (combination of assets, not all of what is listed). Tyler Myers – early draft pick, top prospects, roster player. Chris Stewart – mid round pick, secondary prospect. Torrey Mitchell: mid round pick, long-shot prospect. Drew Stafford – 2nd or 3rd round pick, secondary prospect. Tyson Strachan – mid to late round pick. Cody Hodgson – early round pick, top prospect, roster player.
  • Habs Links: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin on drafting: if the talent is equal, they would prefer a French-speaking player, but added they are “here to win” and would take the best player available.
