  • Mike Hume: The Capitals tried to move up. They came close but their potential trade partner thought that No. 13 was too far back.
  • Alex Prewitt: The Capitals were looking to trade up to draft Hadyn Fleury. Vrana was their guy after that.
  • Rob Mixer: Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said they tried to get a second first round pick but couldn’t get it done. Chuck Gormley: Was offering a second round pick to move up.
  • Darren Dreger: The Leafs and Sabres were doing a lot of talking. Nothing imminent, Leafs were checking in more than anything.
  • Tim Campbell: Hearing that the Flyers have next to no interest in Evander Kane.
  • Will DePaoli: The Red Wings have looked into Paul Martin’s availability. The Wild may be looking at him as well.
  • Mark Lazerus: Canucks GM Jim Benning on the Blackhawks and Ryan Kesler“They were in it right until the end.”
  • Renaud Lavoie: Five teams made offers for Spezza. Only three were serious but not enough for GM Bryan Murray. If they can’t find a deal, he’ll have to play in Ottawa.
  • Craig Custance: Bryan Murray said they were asking for a first in any Spezza trade deal, but teams that were interested never circled back.
