Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: Colorado Avalanche forward John Mitchell cleared waivers Saturday, but was in the lineup yesterday against the Minnesota Wild. The Avs have about $1.7 million in salary cap space. Moving Mitchell’s $1.8 million salary cap hit ($1.9 million salary) could help the Avs on the trade market.
“It gives us flexibility over 30 days in case we want to see someone,” Sakic said.
The Avs don’t have any plans to send Mitchell to the minors and recall a prospect.

Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos on the Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba situation.
“Kurt Overhardt (Trouba’s agent) met with Kevin Cheveldayoff in Detroit,” Kypreos said. “The feeling is it’s still pretty quiet on that front, but Winnipeg would love to sign this guy. And sign him to that same contract we’ve seen other defencemen get. The perception out there right now is that there is a deal, like a Morgan Rielly deal, for $5 million, six years.
“And that would still come with the thought that it could be tradable if in fact he signs this and starts playing again, that they could be in a position where teams would love the known certainty of Jacob Trouba for the next six years and it would be tradable if that’s the direction they wanted to go.”
Elliotte Friedman notes that Kurt Overhardt was Kyle Turris‘s agent when Turris missed the start of the season with the Coyotes. He eventually signed a deal with the Coyotes (November 22nd) and was later traded to the Senators (December 17th).
