On the Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba …

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Darren Dreger on TSN 1290 yesterday talking about Winnipeg Jets RFA defenseman Jacob Trouba. Dreger thinks trade calls to Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff are consistent, if not daily.

The pressure timeline may not be until mid-November, leading up to the December 1st deadline.

“And maybe – and this is my own speculation – at that point then the two sides come back together and you look at the potential of mending fence and getting him back into the mix. But that’s all just, again, speculation on my point at this stage.”

GM Cheveldayoff was on Sportsnet’s Hockey Central @ Noon and once again wouldn’t really comment on the situation.

“We’re going to do what’s right for the organization, and rest assured – there’s been lots of work on this.”

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1050 yesterday talking about the Jets and Trouba. There is not much of update on the situation. McKenzie doesn’t get the sense that a trade is close, though it only takes one phone call.

“But not only is he looking for a trade, but he’s also looking for a contract. Now, the team that trades for him will know that the price of poker is certainly expensive and will have to give him the contract that he wants. But nevertheless, it does complicate things. Even if Trouba decided – and I’m not saying he would – but let’s say he wakes up one day and says, ‘You know what? I’m losing money. This trade doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon. I might as well go back and play for the Winnipeg Jets.’ Now he’s got to sort out the financial end of things. And that may be one of the root causes in the first place, as to why he wants to go. I’m not saying it is, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was.”
