On Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings …
Gary Lawless of TSN: There is no sign that the Winnipeg Jets appear to be close to trading defenseman Jacob Trouba. The Jets appear to be willing to out wait Trouba, who can’t play in the NHL this season if he’s not signed by December 1st.
The Red Wings need to fix their blueline. Danny DeKeyser is a No. 3 defenseman but as been playing as their No. 1. They have trouble getting the puck out of their own end.
Andrew Ladd’s seven-year deal is basically buyout proof with $31.5 million of it in bonuses. The NHL doesn’t like these types of deals and will look at it when they do the next CBA.
The Kings don’t have a lot of cap space to bring in a goalie and find some scoring help.
The Jets will have to look at their options in net if Connor Hellebuyck or Michael Hutchinson can’t claim the No. 1 spot. They have Ondrej Pavelec and Eric Comrie in the minors. The Jets have received calls on their goaltenders.
On the Vancouver Canucks, Henrik and Daniel Sedin …
Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Bob McKenzie on SiriusXM yesterday on the Vancouver Canucks, Henrik and Daniel Sedin. McKenzie was asked if there was interest from all sides, could Henrik and Daniel be moved together? The Canucks would have to retain salary, but it allow the Canucks to start a complete rebuild and allow the Sedin’s a chance a winning.
“Well, there’s got to be desire to do that,” considered McKenzie. “And first the desire has got to start with Vancouver Canuck ownership. And to this point in time, they haven’t been the slightest bit inclined to go down that road. I don’t know that getting off to a bit of a slow start here is going to be the catalyst for that to happen.
“Obviously the Sedins would have to be on board with it. And then on top of that, I mean – they’re really good players. They’re not producing at the rate that the Canucks need them to right now, and maybe that’s to be expected. Although I do suspect that before it’s all said and done they’ll get their points and they’ll be more productive.
“But how many teams even can take on two contracts, even if half of the money is eaten, and how does that become a fit. And if you’re going to take on that financial obligation, even at half, then what do the Vancouver Canucks get that makes it so worth their while that they would want to do it.
McKenzie thinks that the Sedin’s will finish their careers in Vancouver and that all plans for the team, regardless of what they are, will involve Henrik and Daniel. The Sedin’s will have to decide if they want to be apart of that plan.
