NHL Rumors: Scouting Avs-Jets, Sens, Blues and Red Wings
Jimmy Howard

On Scouting the Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets…

Adrian Dater: Scouts listed for the Avs-Jets game last night: Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Ottawa mayor Jim Watson said on TSN 1200 that he’s “cautiously optimistic” that the Senators outdoor game against the Montreal Canadiens next December 17th will be played at TD Place.

The Senators had been looking to hold the game on Parliament Hill.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: (chat) Rutherford thinks that with the Blues start to the season, it could be getting close to the time where they may need to make some sort of move – trade, coach, etc.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Craig Custance of ESPN: (mailbag) Jimmy Howard has a 4-2 record with a .961 save percentage so far this season. The last time spoke with Red Wings GM Ken Holland, he said he was happy with keeping both Howard and Petr Mrazek. Holland didn’t sound like he was eager to trade Howard.

Even if the Red Wings wanted to move Howard, his $5.3 million contract that runs through 2018-19 isn’t easy to trade. Though they could retain some of Howard’s salary, they may be better served to leave him unprotected for the expansion draft.

The Red Wings could use a good, young defenseman, but it’s unlikely that Howard could net them one.
