NHL Rumors: Stamkos, Tavares and Vesey
John Tavares of the New York Islanders and Garret Sparks of the Toronto Maple Leafs
On Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Toronto Maple Leafs and Jimmy Vesey …

A collection of tweets from Al Strachan – answering questions from followers.

Alan Strachan: Steven Stamkos had no intention of signing with the Maple Leafs and they didn’t really want to sign him. It’s still too early for the Leafs to go after a veteran star player.

Alan Strachan: Believe that the Maple Leafs will eventually get John Tavares.

Alan Strachan: If the Islanders can’t keep Kyle Okposo, what makes you think they will be able to keep Tavares?

Alan Strachan: “I know the Leafs’ plan is to target Tavares.”

Alan Strachan: It’s the Sabres, Blackhawks or Maple Leafs on Jimmy Vesey’s short list unless someone steps up.

Alan Strachan: Boston not on the Vesey’s short list as he apparently doesn’t want the extra pressure of playing in his home-town. He knows that expectations will be too high in Boston.

On Jimmy Vesey …

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Jimmy Vesey met with Sabres management in Boston last week, and he plans on talking with “a short list” of teams when he becomes a free agent on August 15th.

“I think it would be a little crazy to meet with all 29 teams,” admitted Vesey to CSN in an exclusive interview prior to his weekly Wednesday night appearance in the summer pro league at the Foxboro Sports Center. “We have a little bit of a short list going that I’ve worked on with my agents and my family. We’re going to narrow it down as best as we can, and get through it as quickly as we can on Aug. 15.”

The Bruins will definitely be a team that he’ll be meeting with.

“I’ve said it all along that Boston is definitely on my list of teams that I’d like to talk to. It’s a team that I’ve rooted for all my life, and it’s a team that I watched win the Stanley Cup in 2011,” said Vesey, who finished with 24 goals and 46 points in 33 games with the Crimson as a senior last season. “I’ll definitely be meeting with Boston in August.”

Sense is the Bruins, Sabres, Maple Leafs, Devils and maybe the Penguins could be on his short list.
