NHL Rumors: Ducks, Oilers, Flyers and Jets
Justin Schultz

On the Anaheim Ducks …

  • Curtis Zupke of the LA Times: The Ducks have already made some moves – Carl Hagelin for David Perron and Adam Clendening, and Jiri Sekac for Ryan Garbutt. When talking about the Sekac-Garbutt trade, GM Bob Murray cite the Ducks need to play harder. The Ducks could now look to trading for some offensive help. The Ducks will have a surplus of defenseman soon. Hampus Lindholm and Sami Vatanen are pending RFAs. Rickard Rakell and Frederik Andersen will also be RFAs.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

  • David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Staples notes that if the Oilers want to maximize the trade value of pending free agents Teddy Purcell (UFA) and Justin Schultz (RFA), the Oilers could retain salary. Purcell is making $4.5 million, and Schultz $3.9 million.

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

  • Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Odds are that the Flyers will be sellers at trade deadline.
  • They are only five points out of wildcard spot, and if they remain in the race, they could look to add a scoring winger. Maybe they look at pending UFAs in Kyle Okposo or Andrew Ladd, or maybe they can get Jonathan Drouin out of Tampa.
  • If they become sellers, players on the move could include Mark Streit, Nick Schultz and Matt Read.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

  • Jimmy Hascup of USA Today: Three potential trade fits for Dustin Byfuglien.
  • Florida Panthers – GM Dale Tallon remains a fan of Byfuglien. He’d bring the Panthers some experience, size, and would help out their power play that is ranked 27th.
  • New Jersey Devils – Devils GM Ray Shero is not afraid to make a bold move. Would help out their offense which sits 29th in the league.
  • Boston Bruins – They don’t have a ‘playoff defense.’ Imagine a pairing of Chara and Byfuglien? GM Don Sweeney could be aggressive on the trade front.
