Kings won’t go looking for a goaltender just yet
Helene Elliotte of the LA Times: Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick is out indefinitely after surgery and early indications are they won’t immediately look at trade market for a replacement. For now they will go with Jack Campbell and Peter Budaj.
Dorion on Duchene
Ken Warren: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion on contract discussions involving pending UFA Matt Duchene: “We’re just going to let things stand still (publicly). Hopefully our next discussion on Matt Duchene is when we can hopefully announce a contract.”
Friedman on Kassian, Leddy, Hayes, and Nylander
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Zack Kassian on the report that the Edmonton Oilers have given his agent permission to speak with other teams.
“I didn’t go in and ask for a trade by any means,” he told reporters. “I definitely don’t need a fresh start…. But at the end of the day, your agent has a job to do. If you get healthy scratched he’s going to make a phone call to the GM and see what’s going on….. There has been indirect conversation that other teams might be interested and he was granted permission to talk to them.”
Teams will likely call the New York Islanders about defenseman Nick Leddy who has three years left at $5.5 million per.
The New York Rangers may not be in any hurry to trade someone like Kevin Hayes. Nick Kypreos reported on the weekend that the Winnipeg Jets may be one of the teams interested.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a little thin down the middle with Auston Matthews out.
Neither the Maple Leafs or William Nylander are moving off their stance. doesn’t think the Leafs want to trade him yet, but they know it may be time to start seeing what options are out there. The Leafs could target teams that they feel would be fits. GM Kyle Dubas scouted the Flyers, Kings, Wild, and Hurricanes recently.
