Kyle Turris future to get muddy in Nashville?
Adam Vingan of The Athletic (mailbag): When the question comes up from more than just a source, one stands up and notices. It is clear that Turris is unhappy with his situation in Nashville. Unfortunately for him, that appears to not be improving either. Turris still is owed five more years and $30 million on this contract. He can be moved, however. The question is what kind of return can you get?
Nashville wants to spend a little this summer and in order to do so, they need to move someone. Kyle Turris presents as the most logical choice. The Predators retaining some salary would be likely but it is better than a buyout. So, if Nashville wants Matt Duchene, they will have to move one, maybe two players.
Joe Sakic hints at Colorado movement this summer
Chris Nichols of Nichols On Hockey: Joe Sakic emphasized he wants to look into free agency this summer. Colorado possesses a wealth of riches in cap space. Yes, Mikko Rantanen becomes a restricted free agent on July 1, but there is still room. The hope is there to make Colorado as a contender for several years to come.
“So if he adds some pieces, this push, this year – and they qualify for the playoffs – I think that market will get reignited and that’s good for hockey because it’s not that long ago – well, it is a long time ago where Colorado was an annual contender. But it’s a good hockey market, so here’s hoping they continue to develop.”
Again, the resources and willingness to spend are present. It comes down to can Joe Sakic execute.
Connor McDavid and the eye-rolls of frustration
Mark Spector of Sportsnet: When McDavid gets angered, that frustration level gets expressed quickly throughout the hockey world.
“It’s really high. It’s really, really high,” he said. “We want to play in the playoffs as a team. I personally want to play in the playoffs. I’m not happy about it. It’s going to be a long summer.”
Again, missing out on the playoffs soured McDavid greatly this year particularly because Edmonton had a good chance. Missing the playoffs 12 out of 13 seasons is an indictment on the losing culture. Not having a GM, having a coach get fired, and a dysfunctional mess seems so Edmonton. McDavid has had enough.
