NHL Rumors: Islanders, Avalanche, Stars and Kings
Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche and Nick Leddy of the New York Islanders
On the New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche …

The Fourth Period: The Islanders are looking to improve their roster and find a winger for John Tavares. Coach Jack Capuano and GM Garth Snow‘s future depend on their results this season.

The Islanders can sign John Tavares to a long-term extension after July 1st 2017 and need to make him happy if they want him there long-term.

They’ve been calling teams, but it’s unclear at this point who they are offer up.

The Islanders are believed to have some interest in Colorado Avalanche Matt Duchene. Duchene can play both down the middle and on the wing.

The Avs are taking calls on a many of their players. Nothing is thought to be imminent at this point.

Terry Frei: “As I wrote, I’m against a trade just to make a blow-it-up trade, whether Duchene or anyone else. But everything has to be considered.”

On the Dallas Stars …

Mike Heika: Decisions on whether the Stars want to re-sign pending free agents Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya will depend on what happens the rest of the season.

On the Los Angeles Kings …

The Fourth Period: Dennis Bernstein reported earlier last week that backup goaltender Jeff Zatkoff is on a short leash. If Zatkoff struggles, they could bring in someone else.

They are looking at their options and may prefer a goalie on an expiring contract, unless the other team would take Zatkoff back in the deal. Nothing is imminent.
