NHL Rumors: Michael McCarron, and a Golden Knights-Oilers Feud?

The Minnesota Wild would like to re-sign Michael McCarron but will he look to cash in? A Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers 'feud' may go back a few years.

The Minnesota Wild want to re-sign Michael McCarron, but he may look to cash in, in free agency

Michael Russo of The Athletic: Many teams were after Michael McCarron at the trade deadline, before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild. Now, the pending UFA could be looking to cash in, in free agency in a thin free agent market.

The Wild have a big need for centermen, have some salary cap space, and want to re-sign him. McCarron will need to decide if he likes the fit and what the Wild can offer, or if he wants to test the open market.

The 6-foot-6, right-handed center has never had a contract over $900,000 in his nine-year NHL career.  The Wild gave up a second-round pick to get McCarron. McCarron:

“So (you want to) try to return the favor.

At the same token, I think I’m at a point in my career where I haven’t really taken that next step financially, or had quite the security, I’d say. I guess that’s what I’m looking for.”

NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, and the New Jersey Devils

AFP Analytics and Evolving-Hockey have McCarron at two years and around $2 million, with Dom Luszczyszyn’s model coming in at four years and $1.1 million per.

It’s not the first time the Vegas Golden Knights have disrupted the Edmonton Oilers coaching plans

The Sheet with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta was on with Jeff Marek and said that a few years ago, the Edmonton Oilers wanted to hire a coach from the Vegas Golden Knights AHL coaching staff. They were granted permission to speak with the person, but when they tried to hire him, the Golden Knights didn’t allow it.

“But this is not the first incident involving this scenario between Vegas and Edmonton. A few years ago, the Edmonton Oilers asked permission to speak with one of the assistant coaches within the Vegas Henderson organization (AHL).

They were granted permission. The interview took place. This individual got offered an assistant coaching job with the Oilers. Vegas then denied that pursuit and held on to the contract. He was then elevated within the organization about a year or so later.

The Edmonton Oilers are Looking for a Stanley Cup Winning Coach? Are the Golden Knights Blocking That?

But this is not the first time this has happened between these two clubs. So I wonder if this is just continuing because they don’t want to deal with division arrivals, but I’m sure there’s a little more to the backstory of all of this. I found that one interesting. But this was a few years ago that this incident occurred.
